Layne Audio Replacement Speaker Prices:

This is a partial list of replacement parts available for various brand speakers. Don't worry if you don't see your particular brand or model listed, just call for availability options. Please realize that we do not have spec sheets on every speaker brand and model. There have been hundreds of small [and large] speaker manufacturers over the years, and no one has ever catalogued them all. So...unlike your local auto parts store, there is no universal "speaker database" to consult for finding out what drivers will fit which speakers.  When inquiring about a replacement driver for brands/ models not listed, we will need some basic physical measurements of the driver itself and the cabinet opening it mounts into. Please have these measurements handy when you call.

All parts are original OEM replacements unless otherwise noted. Most are an exact "drop in" fit, but there may be some cosmetic differences in older models. Some parts [especially tweeters for older models] are newer versions or "upgrade" parts that may require some minor cabinet or wiring changes. We can usually provide detailed instructions if any modifications are needed. Where original parts are no longer available, there are often factory upgrade parts or kits to allow you
to convert your cabinets to later versions of the same speaker. When even this is not an option, we can match up the closest available match from our library
of over 2,000 available drivers.

ADS, ADS Braun:
The original German driver manufacturer is long gone, and ADS no longer has any drop in replacement drivers. The Braun woofers were their own unique size, and until recently we had no replacements that would fit without using adapter plates [only option ADS gives, plus insane pricing]. Luckily, some new high quality drivers have come along that make perfect upgrade replacements for the Braun 6.5" and 8" drivers, and generally require only that you drill new mounting screw holes. Call for details on your particular model.

Allison / RDL / RA Labs:
New "original spec" Allison drivers are finally becoming available, including the "pulsating dome" tweeter, 3.5" midrange dome, 8" and 10" woofers. These are quality US made parts, not the "junk" drivers available previously. Prices will get posted as soon as we get final information from the manufacturer. Grills for most models are also available. We will continue to offer upgrade woofers for the 8" and 10" sizes. For the RDL and RA Labs speakers we still have a wide variety of aftermarket upgrade parts, simple call with your model and driver sizes for appropriate options.

Bose: We have a new manufacturer on-line and making our classic 8" and 10" woofers once again. As before ,these are quality US Made drivers. Tweeters are factory originals from Bose, same for the 6.5" woofers and 4.5" full range.
8" mid/woofer: Used in the popular 301, 4.2, and 601, $49 each.
10" woofer: used in older model 501's, $69 each.
2.5"  Stereo Targeting Tweeter: square frame, used in the 401, 4001, later 501 and others, $29/pr
3" Direct/Reflecting Tweeter, used in the 301, older 501, 601 and some others, round frame with rear screw mounting,4 ohm, intended to be run in series for an 8 ohm load, $29/ pair
6.5" woofer/mid, used in the 401, 4001, and as a mid in the 701, paper cone and cloth surround, $29 each [3 pcs left as of Jan 2004]
4.5" full range, used in the 901 and  802. 1-3 pcs $49 ea, 4+ $45 ea, unique triangular frame one-ohm driver, special order.
2.75" mid tweeter ["twiddler"] for the Acoustimass [tm] "CUBE" speakers: $35 pair, this is a Sony part, their version of the Bose part updated with a rubber surround. Frame is identical, a drop-in fit for both single and dual "cube" models.

CARVER:
Whole new ribbon drivers for The Amazing Loudspeaker are finally available [no woofers yet]. The new units are much improved over the originals in terms of sound quality and durability. Drop in fit with no crossover changes needed, $650 each. Nope, not cheap, but this is a very unique high end speaker. Have also located a possible replacement for the odd TAL 12" woofer, call for price. We can supply direct replacements for most of the woofers/ tweeters used in later Carver home audio speakers [these are much more reasonably priced, most under $50].

DAHLQUIST:
We have suitable upgrade replacements for most Dahlquist models. They generally shared the same few mids and tweeters, with the woofers being the main variation. Parts noted below refer to those for the DQ-10, by far the most common model. Call for details on other models.

Woofers for DQ-10, DQ-20 [possibly others]. This is actually a "Large Advent" woofer, a 10" driver in a 12" pincushion [squared off] frame. The self proclaimed "original" Dahlquist service people are charging about $130 to rebuild an old woofer with non-original parts, while we sold brand new factory replacements for $80 each. Our supply of original factory woofers has finally run out, but we have new, much improved custom replacements for $80. Overall tonal quality has been maintained as close as possible to the originals, but we had several key improvements made to the magnet system, voice coil, and suspension. The resulting woofer is a much better overall performer while maintaining the flavor of the original.

5" cone mid: This Phillips mid has been out of production since the mid 80's, and frankly even if exact replacements were available, you could do better. Originally designed back in the early 70's, this was the first true midrange driver available on the open market. While still better than the cheap "junk" drivers so common today, many advancements have been made in design, construction, and materials. We have several modern drivers that make wonderful replacements, with prices ranging from $30 to $55 each.

1.5" Dome Midrange:  we have several upgrade replacement options that will easily surpass the originals, prices start at just $69 each.

Tweeters: The old Phillips 3/4" dome tweeters are long out of production, but not to fret, we have several replacement options available at very reasonable prices. Don't spend $80 on a clone of what was only a $15 tweeter to start with. Install a better quality modern 3/4" dome [starting at $25] and the DQ's will sound much better, and have an extended top end that will let you drop that Motorola piezo horn.

Crossover parts: if you have the early style crossover which uses all electrolytic capacitors [blue can type], you can see a huge improvement by rebuilding the crossover with modern poly caps. Basic rebuild parts [caps only] run about $50 per cabinet, parts for a total crossover rebuild will cost $90-$100 per cabinet. Later cabinets using the factory mylar caps [white or yellow body] are decent as-is, but can be improved considerably by installing inexpensive but high quality non-inductive resistors [about $10/cabinet]. Replacing the stock woofer coil with a low resistance heavy gauge coil [as little as $7] can net an appreciable boost in low end output and clarity.

Dipole Ribbon Conversion: This is something for those DQ-10 owners who are looking for something completely different. The DQ-10 is already a quasi-dipole speaker, with the 5" cone mid operating in a damped open back setup. We will soon have a complete conversion kit which replaces all the mid-high drivers with new generation dipole ribbons. By reducing the number of crossover nodes from 7 to 4, the phase accuracy and tonality of the speaker is greatly enhanced. A large dipole ribbon driver handles the critical midrange frequencies from 500Hz to 5Khz, a range previously split between two different drivers. The range from 5K to beyond audibility is handled by a matching dipole ribbon tweeter. The width and depth of the resulting image is hard to describe. Accuracy and realism in the vocal range is second to none. Cost??? The basic kit with drivers and crossover parts will start at about $300 per pair.

EPI:
We have drop-in replacements for most of the woofers and mids, better than stock and reasonably priced, also have an upgrade replacement for the inverted dome tweeter, but it does require an adapter plate as the original tweeter was oversized. Most EPI speakers lack a real crossover, often having just a single cap on the tweeter. When you change drivers we can supply parts for an appropriate filter network. Our most popular 8" replacements run $45-$48 each, and are high quality US made woofers.

ESS:
The cast frame woofers and passive radiators are an odd size and must be rebuilt or replaced with factory parts [call for prices]. The Heil AMT [air-motion transformer] modules can be easily rebuilt by installing a new ribbon module, cost is between $50-$65 depending on version. For models with the stamped frame 10" or 12" drivers we have several possible upgrade options, depending on what performance level you want to step up to. If you have a speaker with a missing Heil AMT module, some factory replacements are available [very expensive] , along with one or two aftermarket options.

Genesis:
See EPI info above for most standard models, same notes apply. New 10" passive radiators [fits many models] are just $30ea and are custom weighted.

KLH:
OEM replacements are no longer available for the classic KLH speakers, but don't give up hope. Since many  KLH parts were often "clones" of AR designs or vice-versa, they can often be interchanged. The equivalent AR parts are often superior to the KLH versions, and make nice upgrades for your existing cabinets.

We do not carry OEM parts for the "NEW" KLH speakers, but they are available from the current brand owner. They won't sell them to any outside repair shops, and we wouldn't care to stock them anyway. In the late 80's KLH went out of business and the name was bought by a marketing company, then used to sell mainly low priced, low quality speakers.  With few exceptions, the parts used in the new KLH speakers are about as cheap as they get, basically the same grade you see in the "white van" speakers, they [KLH] are just honest enough to sell them for a fair price, e.g. $98 for a 15" 3-way at Sam's Club or Costco. For that you get an $18 woofer, $5 paper cone sealed back midrange, and $3 paper cone tweeter. Crossovers are generally a single electro cap on the mid and tweeter, often nothing on the woofer. The speakers may be labeled as high as 300 watts "compatible", but no RMS value is ever given. Once you've roasted the mids, tweeters, and crossovers, you can send the speakers back to the factory for free repair under the generous 5-year warranty...but...as there are no repair stations anywhere, you must ship the speakers to the "factory" on your dime. If you decide to keep and fix the speakers, spend your money wisely and get some decent drivers that will sound good and last more than a few months. The cabinets aren't exactly furniture grade, but they're nice enough to warrant a refit with some of our low cost surplus drivers. Just give us a call with the size/type drivers you need and we can give you the best available options.

Klipsch:
K-33 15" Woofer upgrade: spec match to the preferred mid 70's version of this woofer, but with a much heavier magnet system and 15Hz lower resonance to get a much deeper, richer bass response, $145 ea, this woofer also has 4x the power handling of the stock K33, so you can use moderate electronic bass EQ to further enhance the low end.
Heresy 12" upgrade woofer: long throw version of the original, takes low bass input much better, $85 each, all new [currently on special for $79]
Midrange driver [k 55]: We have located a very high quality replacement for the old EV / Atlas / University drivers found in the classic Klipsch horn loaded mids, only $79 each, this driver is built more heavily and can take the low crossover point [~450Hz] of the larger Klipsch speakers without distorting. The original drivers should really never be run below 700Hz, as a result the lower midrange lacks detail and can be quite distorted, especially at higher volume levels. Our new driver has usable response down to 400Hz [horn permitting], and is rated at 120w RMS crossed over as low as 500Hz. These also use the older type phenolic diaphragms to maintain the "classic" sound lacking in most modern drivers, which almost universally have harsher sounding metal diaphragms.
Building your own Klipsch "clone" speakers?? We can also supply horn lenses for the midrange driver, crossover parts, as well as alternate choices for the woofer and tweeter.
K 77 Tweeter note: We are sold out of our NOS EV T35 / K 77 tweeters, that's it, no more. In short there is no other tweeter that will fit the Klipsch cabinets without considerable modification. We do have a tweeter that does a good job and costs under $50, but as with all potential replacement tweeters, due to the horn size it must be mounted on top of the cabinet. If you want a set of original tweeters, I suggest keeping an eye on eBay, as well as your local pawn shops and used music equipment stores. Klipsch is supposed to have reproductions available soon, but the price is about $200 each. Originals on eBay often go for $200 - $300 per pair used. Don't bother with the plastic "look alike" tweeters that sell for ~$35, they're junk.

Crossover upgrades: we can provide any parts you need to upgrade/ repair you Klipsch crossovers, or parts kits to build the new "ALK" type crossovers [at very reasonable prices].

JBL/Infinity:

OEM replacement parts for these two brands are typically very expensive [read=overpriced] and can take a  long time to arrive. For example: an Infinity 8" woofer that should sell for about $45 costs $99. Where reasonable cost surplus drivers are not available, we have usually found suitable upgrade replacements from other brands that will give better performance at a prices lower than the OEM parts. We also make extensive use of "brandmate" parts, particularly in the case of tweeters. The same drivers are often cosmetically changed then used in various speaker brands owned by the same parent company [Harman Intl. in this case]. The price of a given part may vary as much 50% depending on which brand name a part is sold under, so by selecting the best "way" to get a particular part we can frequently chop the price dramatically.

Reconing of JBL cast frame pro audio woofers is usually the best option for them, but can be expensive. Many older JBL drivers are "repair only", with no new replacements available at all. Better quality equivalents of many consumer grade JBL and Infinity drivers [woofers and tweeters] are often available for 30%-50% less than the OEM parts. Call for options on your particular model. We have a few Infinity 5.25" midrange drivers currently available, see the specials section for more info. We also have some JBL 5" high output  mids for $29 each [very short supply].

Beware of Tweeter Clones: For several years a "Far-East" manufacturer has been making cheap knock-offs of the classic JBL 1" titanium dome tweeter, even offering it in up to 3 different faceplate sizes/shapes to cosmetically match the original JBL part, right down to the words "pure titanium" molded in the faceplate and the little "dent" where the JBL logo badge would normally go. Problem here is that some internet retailers are trying to pass these off as "equivalents", and in some cases as real JBL parts. If you see these plainly listed as a "copies" and priced at $15-$20, you'll at least know what you're getting [just like buying a "Rolex" watch off a street vendor]. More commonly they are listed as an "equivalent" or "clone" [implying equal quality] and priced at $35-$45, a complete rip-off considering they wholesale new [not surplus] for about $8 each, and the sound/ manufacturing quality is nowhere close to the original. For that same $45, we can supply the real factory part in the latest upgrade version which has a smoother sound than the older versions, and worlds better than the cheap knock-offs.

Infinity is trying to re-invent itself once again and gain some distance from its JBL brandmate. In this latest reorganization they have stopped supporting many older models all together, and now factory replacement parts for unique items like the Polydome and EMIM midranges are now gone. We have several higher quality replacement options for the dome mids and most other woofers/mids/tweeters...but no drop-in replacements for the planar magnetic drivers. The diaphragms of the EMIM mids and EMIT tweeters can sometimes be repaired with conductive epoxy if you can locate the break in the conductor [most common problem]. If the mylar membrane has stretched and the driver is "buzzing", you can try heating it to re-tension the membrane [may work, may cause more problems than it solves]. We are now carrying two German designed planar magnetic drivers that are ideal upgrade/ replacement drivers for the EMIT and EMIM drivers. Sound quality, durability, and output level are much better than the original Infinity drivers [which were designed in the late 50's]. These will require some cabinet and crossover modification to work in the Infinity cabinets, but is well worth the trouble. The tweeter modules are $49 each, mids $69 each.

NHT:
Check the bottom of the AR page for NHT parts.

OHM:

"Can" rebuilding is available for some modes at about 1/2 the cost of replacement. No rebuilding of the "F" model is available, but there is an upgrade kit to convert the "F" cabinet to the current Walsh 300 model. Grills and crossovers are available for most models. The OEM prices below are from an older list, and may not be current. In most cases we have better quality, lower priced  aftermarket parts for the standard size woofers, mids and tweeters. Walsh "cans" must be factory rebuilt or replaced.
12" "I" subwoofer, $160 each.
12" woofer for B, B+, B2, $130 each.

Walsh 3, 200, Pro200, $300 each
Walsh 4, 3XO, Pro25, F2 $450 each
Walsh 5, 300, 4XO, F3 $650 each

YAMAHA:

Custom 15" subwoofer: paper cone, Santoprene rubber surround, large magnet and vented voice coil, originally used in a pro audio subwoofer, our custom  version adds a vented and bumped back plate for better cooling and lower motor noise. This unique woofer straddles the fence between the low bass capability of a "hi-fi" sub and the output/ efficiency of a pro audio driver. Priced at only $95 each. Great for building a high efficiency sub for home theater use.

Due to ongoing supply problems, we no longer carry the NS-10 / NS-10a woofer or tweeter. Please call for upgrade recommendations, there are much better woofers and tweeters that will work in the NS10 cabinets at a considerably lower price than the factory parts...they'll also last longer.

Pricing and availability on all listed parts is subject to change without notice. Most newer items are still in production, but others are "old stock" and will no longer be available when current supplies sell through. As stocks of some parts run low, prices may increase.
